ABC Sheep & Pear Tree Sampler

In an earlier post I showed some very LARGE frames that Tom brought me home from the flea market. I neglected to tell him I was looking for 8x10's and 5x7's and smaller. lol
I decided to try to use some of the smaller frames for my newly acquired interest in stitcheries. This one is 13 x 16. I painted and distressed the frame. My intention was to have the homespun border go all around the stitchery. It does....but I made it too long and so now I only have side borders. I'm sure I can fix it but wanted to take a photo of it now in case I end up wrecking it.
The image was offered as a freebie ( my own) and is a couple posts below this one.

My First Colored In Stitchery

I really enjoyed making this. The stitchery design is my own and I colored it in with crayons and then placed a white sheet of paper over the design and ironed it. The wax from the crayons seeped into the paper and left the stitchery looking as if it were painted. I then stitched in black embroidery floss.

I used a floral designed fabric that co-ordinates for the back of the pillow

This pillow is for sale and is listed in my shoppe KKL Primitives

*Freebie* Prim Star Candle Mat Pattern

I've just recently been bitten by the 'stitch bug' and my newest project is this Prim Star Candle Mat. The design is my own and I've posted these photos to show you what the finished mat will look like. Of course, you can do it up your own way too. The candle mat is oval and the finished mat will be 8" wide and 7" long.

Materials

2 pieces muslin,10” square

1 piece warm & natural ( or quilt batting) 10” square

4 small buttons ( I used 2 red and 2 green)

Mark B Gone pen

4 straight pins

sewing machine

embroidery floss – 2 strands

Do not stitch the solid outside oval line

I used black (outline stitch) for the outer oval

I used black (backstitch) for the inner circle around the middle star

I used red (outline stitch) for the middle star

I used two different colors of gold (backstitch)for the 4 stars on the outside

I used green (backstitch) for the stems

I used red (French knot – 4 wraps around needle) for the 'berries'

scissors

pinking shears ( optional)

iron

foil covered cookie sheet

coffee stain

1 heaping tablespoon instant coffee

2 tablespoons vanilla

brush

Directions

Outside line of mat is sewing line

Trace pattern onto doubled muslin, including stars and berries with marking pen

Place warm & natural as the bottom piece, on top of that add the muslin with the traced pattern, pattern facing up, pin together on the four corners

Hand stitch the pattern using outline stitch, backstitch and French knots ( see Embroidery floss above)

Hand sew a button into the middle of each outer star

Remove straight pins

Place unmarked muslin piece on top ( w&n on the bottom, stitched piece in the middle) and pin in place

Using sewing machine sew all around the candle mat on the outside solid line

With pinking shears, cut off excess muslin within 1/4” of the seam, being careful not to cut seam

Turn mat over and in the center cut a slit about 3” long and turn mat RSO ( right side out) slipstitch opening closed.

Press mat flat on wrong side

Place mat on foil lined cookie sheet and brush coffee stain (Do not soak, dip brush into stain and run brush up sides of bowl to remove excess stain) all over both sides of mat, being sure to also brush the sides.

Place cookie sheet into WARM oven and turn mat every few minutes until dried being careful not to burn

Terms of use: Pattern is given freely, you may not sell it or offer it for download. You may sell your finished candle mat as you wish. Credit for design is appreciated

Good Enough To Eat!!

I just came across this website called Primitive Baking. I saw a category for pantry cake and thought it was how to make a faux one. But it's not, these are REAL foods and they look sooooo yummy! Molasses cake, real sugar cones, an upside down cake made with oatmeal, nuts and fall fruits! They even make and sell shoo fly pie!! Primitive Baking does custom order cookies, local delivery ( IL) and wholesale. The wholesaling however is only to coffee shops and retail stores, but online stores can order pantry mixes wholesale. Check it out!!
